Investment In PACS from Carestream HealthThursday 5th March 2009 Carestream Health announced the signing of a contract with Diakonische Dienste Hannover GmbH and the Röntgenpraxis am Marstall X-ray Clinic for one of its largest PACS installations in Germany to-date. Diakonische Dienste Hanover is one of Germany's largest welfare institutions and includes the Annastift, Friederikenstift and Henriettenstiftung Hospitals representing a total of 1026 hospital beds. The agreement for a PACS system has also been supplemented with an order for 13 computed radiography (CR) systems from Carestream Health.Diakonische Dienste Hanover GmbH (DDH) was founded in 2006, with the goal of creating a shared cooperative structure, while allowing the three hospitals to maintain their autonomy. The foundations and associations that formed the basis of the previous establishments each took one-third ownership of the DDH and together they strategically manage the holding. "After the creation of the Diakonische Dienste Hanover group, the introduction of the PACS is the first medical technology project where we will establish cross site use of decentralised cutting-edge technological resources," said Dr. Michael Schmidt, Managing Director of the DDH. Once installation is complete, the PACS will efficiently manage approximately 250,000 annual X-ray images captured from a variety of modalities in the Diakonie hospitals Friederikenstift and Henriettenstiftung, and in the Röntgenpraxis am Marstall X-ray clinic, providing radiologists with immediate electronic access to those exams to support the diagnostic reporting process. Over the coming months installation will include comprehensive digital networking of the radiology departments in the three hospitals, infrastructure to integrate modality capture and existing IT technology plus hardware of 50 high resolution diagnostic workstations, a further 100 workstations for the various departments and 13 CR systems. "In the daily clinical routine, digital technology means optimised processes, quicker availability of information in the relevant departments and, last but not least, more safety for our patients," explains PD Dr. Peter Landwehr, Head of the Radiology Department in the Henriettenstiftung Diakonie Hospital. "With PACS, the multi-site, comprehensive care of our patients will be made considerably easier both in our own clinic and in the clinical departments we manage," added Dr. Hellmut Elgeti of the Röntgenpraxis Am Marstall. "This is an extremely sophisticated PACS that will be employed on up to nine different sites, requiring detailed planning and execution. The innovative features and functionality of our PACS platform are designed to meet the needs of multi-site networks, as can be witnessed by a number of successful Carestream Health installations across Europe including Scotland, France, Italy, Spain and the Nordic countries," said Christophe Chapot, Healthcare Information Systems Business Manager, Europe North, Carestream Health.
